The Islamic Development Bank (ISDB) in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia announcement Winner of the 2025 ISDB Award for Impact Merit in Islamic Economics.
The top prize was awarded to Medikids, with an innovative WAQF* initiative addressing Indonesia’s administrative challenges. The project leverages Medikid’s dental clinics for children and families to generate sustainable funding, which will fund scholarships for health professionals and support social welfare initiatives.
The committee has decided to withhold second place.
The Blue Filter initiative, which created a prototype to remove harmful contaminants and purify water, won the third place award.
These awards will be announced at the ISDB Group Annual Meeting held in Algiers, Algeria between May 19th and 22nd, 2025.
ISDB Group Chairman Dr. Muhammad Al Jassar praised the winners for their contributions to Islamic economics, highlighting the importance of translating principles into practical initiatives for economic development. The selection committee recognized the consistency with the ISDB’s strategic goals and highlighted the sustainable and effective nature of both winning projects.
Founded in 1998, the ISDB Awards initially focused on Islamic economics, banking and finance. We expanded in 2020 to include categories of development achievement and knowledge contribution. The 2025 cycle highlights successful projects worldwide in ISDB member states and Muslim communities.
*WAQF is a type of charitable contribution in Islamic law.
