President Donald Trump has vowed to extend the Tiktok ban until he can sign a deal to sell social media apps to US owners.

President Donald Trump will grant Tiktok a further 90 days this week from the US disputed ban and sign a new executive order, the White House confirmed Tuesday.

This is the third extension since Trump took office in January.

“President Trump will sign additional executive orders this week to get Tiktok to run,” White House press chief Karolyn Leavitt told FOX News.

“As he said many times, President Trump doesn’t want Tiktok to go dark. This extension will last for 90 days. The administration will work to ensure that Americans can continue to use Tiktok with assurances that their data is safe and secure.”

The move adds to the ongoing saga surrounding Tiktok, a popular video sharing app owned by Chinese parent company Bytedance.

The law only allows for a 90-day extension, and the Trump administration granted it earlier this year. This week’s order represents a second extension beyond that legal window.

According to Reuters, Tiktok has yet to announce a buyer for US businesses. Sales negotiations reportedly stagnated in April after the announcement of new tariffs on Chinese goods, urging China to withhold approval of necessary regulations.

This extension will push Tiktok’s next deadline by mid-September.
