The federal government manages an incredible amount of land in the West, including more than half of Oregon, Utah, Nevada, Idaho and Alaska and almost half of California, Arizona, New Mexico and Wyoming. Please see map (PDF). Most of this land is not in the park!!! It’s time for sales to raise some funds and improve the efficiency of land allocation.
Conservative Mike Lee There is an invoice This will allow for some sales. wonderful! The only problem with the bill is that it is equipped with restrictions and qualifications. For example, there is a 0.75% cap on total sales. This means that land sales are limited to less than 1% of the total land on federal land, and most rules prohibit sales, so the cap is high. Any permitted sales must be appointed by the state or local government, but must be adjacent to the development area and close to the infrastructure. Additionally, the land can only be used for residential purposes. Lymanstone has a thread More details. As you can see right, a very modest goal is to streamline the land patterns on some checkerboards.
Still, the bill is probably doomed. Simply mentioning the sale of federal land will cause moral panic, as if someone had suggested auctioning out Yellowstone. Assumed conservatives like Romes are fueling this hysteria (e.g. here, here and here). It’s nonsense. here and here Is it the type of land we are actually talking about?– Is there any difference?
As a Matt Darling It was pointed out,This one All Bagel Liberalism from Conservatives– bloated confusion of special interest and proceduralism that strengthens the supply of the patella.
If we cannot sell federal scraps, we have abandoned the pretense of governance of the public interest. We need to build a whole new city –A city of freedom!– No whining about fishing or hunting in scrub scraps. This is exactly the same as the city’s nymbies lobbying to preserve “Historical” parking. Pathetic. The monopoly of federal land is not sacred. Leave it alone. This is where rubber hits the road. If the Magazine means something beyond atmosphere and complaints, it should mean that Americans will cut off the deficit to own and build and unlock the land.
Of course, we need to privatize federal land (probably not).
