This week I will be talking to Ron Shaich, co-founder of Au Bon Pain, and founder and former chairman and CEO of Panera Bread. A key part of building that brand, Shaihi is a leading investor at Cabaret, Tatt, Life Alive and Level 99, continuing his long, large career in restaurants and speeding up casual business. He is believed to have defined a rapid causal segment.

Under Shaihi’s leadership, Panera has been the best performing restaurant stock as CEO in the past decade and the second best performing consumer stock in the same period. In 2017, Shaihi sold Panera Pan to Jab Holdings for $7.5 billion.

Today, he invests through Act III Holdings, an evergreen investment vehicle of over $1 billion. Scheich was twice recognized as Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year, named Restaurant Leader of the Year in 2018, and was awarded the prestigious Nations Restaurant New Spioner Award as one of the most important contributors in the history of the restaurant business.

Here is a list of his current readings. Our conversation transcripts are available on Tuesday here.
