Maxi Günnewih, a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Bonn, was I won Philip Sandner Award for Digital Finance Studies at Frankfurt School of Finance & Management and WM Gruppe.
Günnewig was Granted 10,000 euros for his work at Smart Bank examining the integration of banks with blockchain-based smart contracts in the future financial system. The purpose of his research is to prevent bank operations and costly government intervention, utilize technology to eliminate financial vulnerabilities and prevent future crises.
The award was announced at the Crypto Assets Conference on March 26, 2025. The International Award honors young researchers focused on blockchain, digital assets, machine learning, artificial intelligence, payment systems and financial platforms.
Günnewig expressed his gratitude and pride to be awarded. Professor Philip SandnerHe is a former professor at Frankfurt School and founding director of the Frankfurt School Blockchain Centre (FSBC), who passed away in January 2024. The selection process involves reviews by the scientific committee and final selection by a ju apprentice, including business, science and administrative experts.
