Pakistan first opened fire at several posts along the LOC in Kupwara and Balamura districts of North Kashmir, then expanded the ceasefire violations into the Phoenchi sector, and then expanded to the Akh Whole sector in Jammu region.

This was followed by small arms at several posts along the LOC in the Thunderbani and Nowshera divisions in the Rajuli district. The firing then expanded to the Pargwar sector along the border of Jammu district.

Despite recent hotline conversations between India and Pakistan’s military operations directors, new ceasefire violations have occurred.

On April 24, Pakistan blocked Indian Airlines airspace, closed the crossing of the Waga border, halted all trade with India, and warned that attempts to divert water would be considered an “act of war.”

The ceasefire along the border was reaffirmed in February 2021, with the two countries agreeing to comply with the 2003 letter and spirit agreement. However, the current situation shows a major departure from the relatively mild that has been maintained since then.

India shares a total of 3,323 km of border with Pakistan and is divided into three parts. The border is approximately 2,400 km from Gujarat to the northern bank of the Chenab River in Aknorr, Jammu. The line of control, 740 km long, runs from part of Jammu to part of Leh. The actual ground position line, 110 km long, divides the Siachen region from NJ 9842 into Indira Col north.
